Use the Modernization Advisor

Access database and cloud migration recommendations organized by effort level.

Before you start
Who this is for Architect, project manager
Role required Viewer or higher
Prerequisites Application analyzed with the com.castsoftware.sql.movetocloud extension; application contains Oracle Server (PL/SQL) objects

Step 1: Open the Modernization Advisor

On the Welcome page, find Are you looking for guidance on upgrading/modernizing your application? and click Imaging Advisor.

Step 2: Read the recommendations

Recommendations are organized into three categories:

Category Meaning
Quick Wins Small changes, low effort, immediate benefit
Minor Cleanup Moderate effort changes that reduce migration complexity
Major Cleanup Large, complex changes required for the migration to succeed

Step 3: Investigate a recommendation

Click any recommendation to see:

  • A description of the issue
  • The objects involved
  • Links to documentation

From here you can tag objects, add annotations, and view source code.

Step 4: Track progress with tags

Use tags to mark objects as “in progress” or “done” as you work through the recommendations.

Step 5: Keep recommendations up to date

Recommendations come from CAST extensions. When new checks are released, update the extension in AIP Console to get the latest guidance.
